Rømø is located in the Wadden Sea National Park, which stretches from the Danish Ho along the entire German North Sea coast to Den Helder in Holland. The Wadden Sea is one of the most important wetlands on earth. It is characterized by a constant alternation of high and low tides, which also forms the basis of the species richness of this biotope. The smallest organisms are the food of the many birds in the mudflats. Holland, Denmark and Germany agreed in the 1990's on a common strategy for the conservation of the Wadden Sea.
